My Wife and I, with another couple, visited the Horse & Jockey as a halfway stop during the Source to Cricklade leg of our Thames Path walk.Having met up in Cricklade, we left one vehicle there and all drove to a pub near the Source at which to park the other. This was to enable us to finish the walk and drive back to the Source, rather than rely on the area's sparce transport links.Anyway, so far so good - until seated at the Horse and Jockey when we suddenly realised we'd left the keys to the Cricklade car in the one at the source! Not only did the new landlord at the Horse and Jockey rustle up some excellent food despite our arriving almost 30minutes after the end of the pub's "official" lunchtime, but he offered to drive me to the Source to collect the keys! This we did, drove the car to the Horse & Jockey, and continued our walk. This pub is not to be missed on a Thames Path walk. The owners (a retired Police Detective Inspector and his Wife) are brilliant, the pub is very homily, the food is excellent value. Highly recommended!!!
When we heard the horse and jockey had new people both me and the wife thought lets give them a try. well it did not take long for the word to get round before the first time we could get a table was 9pm, ok we thought lets go for it. Well we walked in the door to be greeted with a warm welcome and a even warmer roaring log fire. We had to wait a bit for our table but the well kept pint of 6X more than made up for it. My starter of crab meat in homemade Pasta with shelfish sauce was well received, indeed I could have eaten two but then the look from the wife said different!. We both ordered steak, the wifes well done with mine Blue the main meals arrived just after the empty starter plates vanished and we both left empty plates and I finished off with the cheese board. well done everybody at the Horse and Jockey we will be returning.
Having heard that the horse and jockey had changed hands I thought myself and the wife would give it a "Try" we were not disapointed. We walked in to a warm greeting and a warm pub infact the roaring log fire looked good. allthough we had to wait until 9pm for the first available table the meal arrived without having to wait to long (one pint of well kept 6X later) My crab meat in Pasta with shellfish sauce Starter arrived and was soon eaten,my wife,s steak cooked well done arrived the same time as mine cooked Blue and they were both most enjoyable. we will be returning.
