In recognition of the start-up support Business Link gave Chesterfield Champion Paul Wilson when he established his company, Cedrus Consulting in 2007, he is delivering a free one-day course aimed at helping local businesses become more efficient.

The course, Operational Excellence, is being jointly organised by Chesterfield Borough Council’s Innovation Support Programme and Destination Chesterfield. It is being held on Friday 28th June at Dunston Innovation Centre. There are only 20 places on the course and they are on a strictly first come, first served basis.

Paul explained: "I set up my business in 2007 with the help and advice of Business Link in Chesterfield.  With the support of Destination Chesterfield and the Innovation Support Programme, I am now able to give something back to the local business economy by delivering the Operational Excellence course for free."

The course is a snapshot of what Paul delivers to large corporations both in the UK and all over the world, helping them learn how to work faster, make fewer mistakes and reduce costs. The tools and techniques he will cover as part of the course are used by some of the most successful overnight delivery companies, including Amazon and Tesco.

By the end of the one-day course Paul is confident that delegates will leave with a list of three things they can immediately change to improve their business.

He added: “I have successfully used the Operational Excellence tools and techniques myself to take my business from a local company to become a respected training partner of major Blue Chip companies at home and multi-national organisations."

Paul promises it will be a hands-on day and delegates will leave with a list of things they can improve in their business as well as a full set of electronic course notes. He will also be joined on the day by Louise Orill, a personal trainer from Simply Gym who will address the importance of having a fit and healthy workforce.

Paul Stuart, Innovation Support Project Manager, said: “I’m delighted that the Innovation Support Programme is supporting the Operational Excellence course. It is an opportunity for local SMEs to benefit from nationally-recognised support and I know it will be of huge interest to many local businesses looking to grow and move their company to the next stage. The hands-on nature and proven results of this course is something I know will be of tangible benefit to many businesses.”
