After promotion last season, the team is finding the competition has improved, but are stepping up to match it.

In a first half just edged by the Derbyshire side, the only score came from Macauley Watkinson, with the conversion from Harry Chapman.

In the second half both sides did well to complete their sets of six with a slippy ball and some fierce tackling on show. Props Ben Doxey, Munashe Fumhanda and Matley Brain were putting in hard yards and Callum Hallowes was solid at full back under some smart kicking by the Hull half back. Eventually a period of Hull pressure saw them go over in the corner after a good passing move down the line. The Chargers stayed ahead 6-4 when the kick hit the post. The next 15 minutes were tense - both sides had chances but defences held firm until right on full time, when a knock on by Hull led to an attacking scrum which set up the Chargers for a trademark Hallowes try, the full back hitting the line and being picked out by half back Chapman for a clinching score.

The Chargers are showing that they can compete at the higher level, but are definitely looking forward to warmer and drier conditions as the season progresses.
