Well I have to say it isn’t really that long off now!  Christmas 2011 that is, it is actually only 47 days from writing this blog to the big day itself.  Once the Christmas Lights have been switched on in Chesterfield Town Centre, you always know that Christmas is only just around the corner.

Well this year Chesterfields’ Christmas Lights Switch On takes place on Sunday November 20th 2011 at 5pm in New Square by the Mayor and (wait for it…) ‘Batman’!!

The fun doesn’t start there though as there will be a fun filled family day beforehand.  Festive Shoppers will be able to enjoy the Christmas Open Air Market from Noon until 6pm, with stalls from regular traders and charities.  Most town centre shops will also be open so pop along and soak up the atmosphere and pick up some wonderful gifts from great local businesses.

You can also enjoy music from the Pantonic All Stars Steel Band who will arrive at 11:30 and play throughout the day until 5pm (outside Next store on Burlington Street).  We saw them very recently at the Garden of Light and what can I say… they are wonderful and will certainly bring some festive cheer and sounds!!

During the day you can also enjoy a train ride around the Town Centre from Lenny the Land Train and there will be a Fun Fair and rides available at various places.  Batman will be in Town for most of the day and will be making his way around and interacting with people at various times of the day.

Sean and Becky from Peak FM will also be warming up the crowd from 4pm in preparation for the big switch on in New Square, opposite Yorkshire Bank.

The Christmas lights Switch On has always been a magical event for me all through growing up and no matter how old I get, that big switch on always fills me with such happy anticipation for our merry festive season!!
