The Bear & Billet - traditional public house in the heart of historic Chester
The Bear and Billet is the finest 17th century timber framed town house in Chester. It is dated 1664 and was built for the Earls of Shrewsbury, who had half custody of the adjacent Bridgegate in the mid-17th century.
The Bear & Billet is an excellent traditional pub, serving in a bare floor and beamed setting.
Six hand pumps make this large historical pub a pleasure to visit. Fine food complements the beer in this Okell's house, and a small beer garden and upstairs dining area make drinking here a fine experience.
Outside, the building itself is a sight to behold, with its intricate Tudor style woodwork seen throughout Chester.
The service is friendly and efficient and all together this is one of Chester's best traditional pubs.
Located just off the city walls and within spitting distance of the river The Bear and Billet is great place to eat and drink.
The Bear and Billet always boasts an impressive array of continental beers, cask ales and draught beers and must be the only pub in Chester with a separate menu just for beer.
The food served at the pub is good value and exceptionally tasty and ideal for either a lunchtime or evening meal.
The historic Bear & Billet has the following amenities for clients:
The landlady is very welcoming and glad to discuss her range of cask ales and local food.
