Chester Film Society - Cinema for All
The Chester Film Society is a member of the British Federation of Film Societies which has been representing the film society movement since 1925. They offer the people of Chester and surrounding areas the chance to see some of the finer films of world cinema in a relaxing and appreciative atmosphere.
If you are interested in film then why not join the club, to help bring the finest independent films, treasures from the past, contemporary narratives and thought-provoking films from around the world to the Chester Film Society. Their varied programme provides a selection of new releases and classics, with varying themes and genres, many of which have bypassed the North West, but always chosen to interest, intrigue and entertain.
The Chester Film Society’s main venue is The Little Theatre, which has comfortable, raked, seating and a licensed bar on the premises for drinks before or after each performance. Film projection is by 16mm film or by DVD projection format, using original dialogue with subtitles for the foreign films.
Like most film societies, Chester Film Society is a membership club. This is because they operate under a non-theatrical licence. The terms of such a licence means that they cannot show films to 'the general public', but can show films to members and guests.
If you are unsure about joining, just go along to centrally located Little Theatre or Steam Mill as a guest. If you then decide to become a member your membership fee will be adjusted accordingly (subject to availability).
The Chester Film Society is a club which seeks to cultivate film appreciation and provide an alternative to mainstream entertainment in Chester and the surrounding area. They are always delighted to welcome new members of all ages to the society, with its diverse mix of film and film-related social events.
