Quite simply, Chester Beer and Wine is the best beer specialist shop in the county. It has an incredible range of beers many of which are selected based on customer recommendation. The selection is regularly refreshed and features many of the most innovative breweries in the world. And the beer tasting nights are the stuff of legend. On the wine side, Sam offers friendly yet expert advice on what to get for the wine lover - my wife - in your life. Sam's hot streak of excellent wine choices continues unabated. I feel lucky and privileged to live within walking distance of this shop. It made my move to Chester from the Big Smoke a lot easier to stomach. Keep up the great work!Andy T
Quite simply the best specialist beer and wine retailer I have come across. As a fan of 'real' beer, they have an unrivalled selection of bottled beers always in stock. I have passed on recommendations to friends who have immediately become regular cutomers. They are also very helpful and knowlegeable when I need advice or when I am looking for an occasional special bottle of wine. A really great local family business which deserves full support.
Great selections of both beer and wine, with staff who really know the business and are always prepared to advise and educate and are never pushy or snooty. Beer selections are constantly being varied, with a truly global range of often quirky and interesting ales. The wine selections are sourced carefully, often with an intimate knowledge of the region and the characteristics of the wine. They always keep prices in a sensible range, and their special offers can be a steal.Tony B

If you want a special wine (or case!) then all you have to do is ask, Sam's knowledge is fantastic and I have never had a wine that she has recommended that has disappointed. Great little shop in Hoole which is rapidly becoming the gourmet centre of Chester. Sam, the proprietor, is really friendly and she will always offer a wise word or two if you are unsure. She never pushes anyone into a big purchase but will gladly assist those who do want something special so they don't waste their hard earned. Really good and wide selection of wines, from everyday gluggers to some serious fine wines, that you just don't get anywhere else. Supplement this with a huge beer selection (from this year's best retailer - NATIONAL), super friendly dog (named Shadow), and another great selection of unusual, hard to find spirits and you are on to a winner!Peter J
We love visiting Sam, the selection is amazing and the staff help with the right choice for the occassion. Be it a quiet evening in or a party! They are always friendly and very knowledgeable. This is a delightful business which stocks excellent wines and beers at good prices across the price range. Sam is welcoming and makes you feel so welcome evn if you know very little about beer or wine. I have bought cases of wine there since they opened, some 5 years ago and have never been disappointed. Great range of wines and beers but more importantly, run by people who will 'go the extra mile' to bring you your tipple. Hi All, Just to let you know I attended a Portugese Wine Tasting at Scatchards on Wednesday of this week, 15/11/07 I think. Evening was absolutely superb.........from Sam's warm, bubbly & welcoming reception to the depth of knowledge of both vineyard owner and esteemed supplier I was amazed. The night introduced me to more wines & ports that I was unaware of but equally impressed by. The best booze shop around! From reasonable tipples to special treats - wine, beer (Belgian fruit varities included), cider and an amazing selection of unusual spirits. Sam is a delight and it's a pleasure to go in and just look at the array of lovely bottles. You never feel intimidated and don't need to be an expert - that why Sam's there. Whether it be for the Clubhouse bar or the special events we run through our season, Scatchards are there to support us. The Chester Beer & Wine (formerly Scatchards) team offer us a tremendous variation of wines, deliver all the way to Kingsley (12 miles) and lend us glasses at no charge.
