Cheshire Jets Basketball Club - more than just a basketball team!
Basketball is played by more people in the world than any other sport except soccer, and is the number one Olympic Team Sport.
The Cheshire Jets Basketball Club was formed in Chester over 20 years ago and they are extremely proud of their association with the team. In recent years they have been the most successful basketball team in the country, winning 7 national trophies between 2002 and 2005.
The Cheshire Jets Basketball Club and its basketball team attract the highest calibre players including British Internationals, Olympians and NBA Professionals. As a spectator sport, basketball draws from a wide spectrum of the Chester and surrounding area community, with the following spectator profile:

The majority of the Cheshire Jets Basketball Club home club games take place at Northgate Arena, Chester, attracting gates of 700+. Cheshire Jets Basketball Club - delivering a healthy living programme through professional sporting role models
The professional basketball league in the UK is the British Basketball league (BBL). The sports season runs from October to May with the Cheshire Jets Basketball Team playing a minimum a minimum of 20 home and 20 away matches per season.
There are 12 basketball teams in the league with a combined attendance of 250,000 through the season. The sports clubs work with a total of 70,000 school age students in over 1000 schools countrywide. Attendance at British Basketball games has increased by over 30% in the last 3 years and is now the second most played sport in schools.
Cheshire Jets Basketball Club have taken the lead in delivering a healthy lifestyle strategy to local Chester school children.

Alongside their hugely competitive and successful team they run a major community sports programme in the region. Using their players as professional sporting role models, they deliver basketball coaching and healthy lifestyle messages to over 5000 young people in Cheshire per year.
'Hoops for Health' Programme
The 'Hoops for Health' programme was launched in Chester by the Cheshire Jets Basketball Club in September 2007 and delivered to 16 primary schools in the area. The success of the first phase of the scheme will now result in it being rolled out to further schools in Chester in January 2008 as well as being introduced to schools in Warrington at the same time.
The major aim of the scheme is to deliver a healthy living programme through professional sporting role models, utilising basketball as an activity to communicate a range of positive health messages to young people in primary schools.
The major focus of informative education and physical implementation includes:
- Healthy nutrition
- Smoking cessation
- The importance of keeping fit and its link to a healthy heart
- Alcohol management
- Physical fitness demonstrated through basketball - including coaching and the inclusion of a school team into a local basketball competition
