A partner at leading regional law firm Walker Smith Way has achieved Fellowship of the Agricultural Law Association (ALA), the UK’s leading independent cross-disciplinary organisation dealing with rural business.

Richard Williams, who specialises in agricultural and estate work as well as long-term tax planning and trusts for landed and farming families, passed the ALA’s Fellowship programme covering rural law not taught at institutional level or in the various professional qualification courses available. He is one of only 35 people in the country to be awarded the accolade.

Said Richard, who has over 13 years' experience in all aspects of Agricultural Law and Landed Estates Management: “ALA Fellowship is a badge of excellence in the sector that I am proud to have been awarded. I’m very grateful to the partners at Walker Smith Way, who supported me in attaining this Fellowship.”

Richard’s considerable experience in agricultural law is complemented by involvement with the Country Land and Business Association, where he sits on the national Taxation Committee and the Welsh Committee, as well as being Vice-Chairman of the North Wales Branch Committee. He is also regional Chairman of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust charity.

Richard's family has owned and worked an agricultural and sporting estate in North Wales for generations and he is actively involved in its management, leaving him uniquely placed to understand the issues facing rural clients first hand.

During his career he has acted for some of the largest farmers and landowners in Cheshire, Lancashire and North Wales - as well as acting for high net worth individuals and institutional landowners nationally
