The Wilson is now the new name for Cheltenham's Art Gallery and Museum, reopening on October 5th, after a £6.3 million redevelopment. The Wilson is named after Dr Edward Wilson, local explorer and artist, who was part of Captain Scott's team on their fateful trip to the Antarctic in 1912. The name was agreed by the Borough Council last week and many of Dr Wilson's drawings do feature in the museum.

The new Wilson Gallery will include:

  • New galleries to host the museum's extensive fine art collection
  • Two new galleries to host temporary national and international exhibitions
  • The Tourist Information Centre relocated from the Promenade
  • Retail outlet 'Guild at 51' - showcase for the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen
  • A ground floor bistro
