Fishing Season at Pittville Lake now closed
12th April 2013

The closed season is to allow the fish to regain condition and be able to spawn without being disturbed.  Plus it allows the resident wildlife to nurture and raise their young.

Janice Payne, Community Ranger for the Council, says: “We take this decision to allow the fish to regain condition and allow the water birds to raise their young with less disturbance. We would also like to ask people to be more aware when they are walking their dogs in the park over the next few months as water birds nest close to the edges of the lake too.”

Fishing recommences on the lower lake from 16th June
If you wish to fish on the lower lake you will require a valid Environment Agency Rod Licence as well as a day permit which you can  purchase from either the Boathouse or Central Cross Cafe on Central Cross Drive. Staff will issue paying anglers with printed guidelines and map for the lake. These are also available to download on the council’s website (https://www.cheltenham.gov.uk/downloads/file/2899/pittivlle_lake_fishing_rules)

Anglers will be asked to show both their licence and day permits.

As the lower lake is also a boating lake, anglers are asked to ensure that to prevent injury when casting, their swim is clear of both wildlife and boats.
