Chelmsford Town Centre redevelopment is set to go ahead

Major development plans for homes and businesses in Chelmsford town centre have been given the green light.

 

Mesopotamia Island, at the rear of Chelmsford High Street, will see the construction of 165 one and two bedroom apartments alongside 16,000 square metres of commercial space over five separate buildings.

 

Plans for the site, which is presently used for car parking within the Bond Street area, was given the go ahead by Councillors on Tuesday this week, giving Chelmsford based developers Aquila the green light to start building.

 

Chairman of the Council Planning Committee Tony Chambers commented: "“We know there is demand for more retail space and this scheme will allow a significant part of this demand to be satisfied. We are looking forward to discussing opportunities with retailers to ensure the development is a commercial success.”
