Masterchef Professional Semi-finalist here in Newcastle Emlyn

Bookmark and Share

We were so privileged to be able to book on to the dinner celebrating Masterchef Professionals Ludovic Dieumegard's winning menu in the quarter finals at the Yr Hen Fuwch Goch (Old Red Cow) now Ludo's in Newcastle Emlyn.
Hubby and I went with my sister and her partner (also a talented chef) No pressure there then for Ludo!!  It was a real gourmet evening.

All the expectant guests were greeted by Lowri with a glass of Champagne and delicious canapés.  In the background on the large screen we were able to watch the Quarter finals with Ludo.   There was a real buzz and expectation amongst all the foodies and we were not disappointed.  This is what we enjoyed,  together with the recommended wine.
Appetizer:
Light Pea Soup with Frogs Leg

I Ddechrau / Starter:
Oyster & Pouilly Fuissé Jelly with Cucumber Spaghetti, Horseradish Cream & Oscietre Caviar - quite spectacularly delicious!
(Muscadet Sur Lie 2008:   Rich, zesty fruit, a classic Muscadet traditionally served with Oysters)

Prif Gwrs /Main:
Pan Roasted Cannon of Welsh Lamb wrapped in Carmarthen Ham, Provençale Vegetables, Wilted Spinach and Saffron Lamb Jus - really yummy!
(Fleurie 2007:   Delightfully fragrant, classic Fleurie. Sumptuously textured and stylish but light.  Perfect to compliment the lamb)

Pre-Dessert:
Pineapple, Malibu & Sage Granita

Pwdin /Dessert:
Pear & Roquefort Soufflé - stunning!
(Montbazillac 2005:  A sweet dessert wine which is strong enough in flavour to hold up against the blue cheese)

Filter Coffee & Petits Fours

It was all quite superb and I know everyone had a great time.

We now just had to wait with anticipation for the semi-finals.  Ludo was on last Wednesday evening.  Goodness it was close and appeared very stressful for the two young chefs competing  and as David my hubby said “there but for a squeeze of lemon and a twist of pepper “ , Ludo may well have gone through to the final but it was not to be on this occasion but we are really proud to have Ludo & Lowri has members of thebestof and I know we shall see much more of Ludo’s creative culinary skills.

Do look out for more of their Gourmet Events on our events pages as they are hoping to have Gourmet Evenings every couple of months.

Next date to look out for is 19th November is Beaujolais Day and Yr Hen Fuwch Goch now Ludo's will have a set menu both for lunch and dinner to celebrate all things  French.  Also look out for their New Year’s Eve Menu.
