What a brilliant butcher. I have always had fantastic meat whether it is a simple chicken breast to exotic kudu fillets. Everyone is really friendly and always happy - it is a greatplace to shop. I have bought from Martin for years and will never change.

Excellent butcher. No matter what meat you buy it is always fantastic quality. We no longer buy any meat at the supermarkets as there is no comparison at all. The range and quality of sausages is superb - well worth trying. Also a good selection on the deli counter as well.

We've used Martin for our meat for about 10 years now. You know the source of all the meat, most of it being local farms. We call it happy meat. The flavour is fantastic - No excess water in chicken, mince and bacon, sausages to die for. And just wait for Christmas - turkeys are amazing. However its not just about the meat. Martin and his team are the most helpful and friendly guys you'd wish to meet. Martins expertise in butchery is awesome and nothing is too much trouble for him. He also has a good food knowledge. Oh and did I mention the cooked section -faggots amazing. I thoroughly recommend them to anyone in or outside the area - We go without meat now if we can't buy from him.

An absolutely superb butcher. Top quality produce from top quality sources. In this day and age it is reassuring to know the source of your chosen produce and its quality. Worth every penny, as is the advice / suggestions given. Excellent variety and choice. Wonderful service in a friendly environment.

As a vegetarian (albeit a rather naughty one who eats fish) never in my wildest dreams could I imagine reviewing a butchers! However lovely, kind daughter that I am, I recently agreed to pick up some items from the Martin Player butchers for my mother, and boy what a discovery.

As someone who does not frequent butchers I had no idea that their produce is not limited to meat. Martin Player stocks a wide variety of Welsh cheeses, preserves, and olives many of which are locally sourced. The olives in particular are far superior to any you could buy in the supermarket, I generally go for the mixed olives with chilli which have the added benefit of being stoneless (makes eating so much easier). What really made my experience at Martin Player great though, was discovering that they sell homemade apple chutney, which I have been after for a very long time and which, much to my disappointment none of the big name stores stock.

Whilst I can't personally pass comment on their meat, the carnivores in my family all swear by it, refusing to buy their pork chops from any other butchers. Finally Martin Player should really be commended on their support for the environment, by providing regular customers with free, environmentally friendly hessian bags, not a practice I've seen many other independent stores undertaking.

Nothing is ever too much trouble for these guys. I'm always welcomed with a big smile no matter how busy they are, and because the food is top notch, they do get busy! I feel rather spoilt to have such a great butchers to go to, whether I want a joint of lamb boned for the BBQ , chickens skinned and quartered for my special spicy recipe or something a little special i know they'll come up trumps. No trip is complete without David doing the 'sausage run' and some weeks there is so much to choose from he just doesn't know what to do .......

Apart from the friendly and expert service the food is divine . Its great to know that everything is totally traceable and I'm supporting British farmers. Oh and if you've never tasted Copas turkey you have missed one of lifes great pleasures. Christmas just wouldnt be the same without it:)

We are keen to source free range pork as they are reared up to an acceptable level. We found Martin on Best of and we had a marvellous piece of pork this weekend and he recommended someone to dress pheasants also! Great service

never fails to provide excellent service & quality foods. Have been buying meat from him for several years and never ever had any cause to complain about taste or quality of any of his products. He deserves all his success.

My husband and I buy all our meat from Martin Player, the selection is vast and the quality is outstanding, and they are right there on our doorstep. Since they have expanded we have been sampling the wonderful array of deli style produce, such as their ʼHot Peppers Stuffed with Fetaʼ (seriously recommended!), along with their fantastic array of Italian olives. Also check out the Welsh cheeses, especially the blue brie and the stilton. We have had amazing service from Martin, the staff are always happy to help out with cooking times and ʼknow howʼ for certain meats if weʼre not sure.
I recently had my 40th Birthday Party and they plattered up cold meats, cooked kebabs in various flavours, prepared drumsticks and salamis, along with the stuffed peppers, olives and cheeses and it was all cool and ready for collection at the end of day - Top Butcher and all the staff are good fun with it. What a pleasure to be able to shop for quality meat locally. Never any problems with supply or advice received regarding any special cuts. Whenever we have guests we can always depend on the meat part of the meal being superb even if anything else is not quite there. Makes us more adventureous in planning our menu knowing this. So pleased that the shop has been extended and is now offering even more of a choice of additional items; olives, cheeses, game ond sauces.
