A public lecture by Dr John Morrill Selwyn College, University of Cambridge (Preceded by a drinks reception at 6.15pm in the Lattergate Garden, accessed via the Mint Yard Gate - all attending the talk are welcome.)

Professor John Morrill is Professor of British and Irish History and Michael Graves Fellow in History at Selwyn College, University of Cambridge. He specialises in the political, religious, social, and cultural history of early-modern Britain from 1500 to 1750, especially the English Civil War, and has written and edited 26 books, including the groundbreaking Revolt of the Provinces: Conservatives and Radicals in the English Civil War 1630-1650 (Allen and Unwin 1976), and just over 100 articles. He is this country’s leading expert on Oliver Cromwell and has just completed editing a four-volume edition of all his recorded words.

In this evening’s lecture Professor Morrill will draw upon this recent work, taking us into the turbulent world of Oliver Cromwell and providing some very surprising insights into one of Britain’s greatest and most controversial generals.
