A gastropub in Harbledown, just off the A2 near Canterbury. Under new management since late 2011, it has retained its position as somewhere that offers a good choice of well-cooked food using local produce at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit not just for the food, but also the friendly service and plenty of parking space in the village street.

Just been here for our Christmas office do!! Fantastic food at a fantastic price.I must say that this is not pub grub. High level of quality produce served to a large group of people. The timing and service was excellent. We were a party of 15 and we have been out for many a meal and there was not one grumble.. Great venue,"The Best of Canterbury" and will of course be returning.Thank you...

We knew that the Old Coach and Horses were under new management, so four of us popped in to try it out. We didn't book and although they were busy, they found us a table and looked after us very well indeed. It was a chilly night, but inside the bar was warm and cosy. The food was superb as was the service. The staff were friendly with a pleasant sense of humour. (a nice change these days) Full marks.

This has recently changed hands and the new landlord (Glen Richards) promises great things, he previously worked for his father (Tony Richards) at the Chapter Arms, in Chartham Hatch, then sucessfully ran the Compass'Inn at Crundale, before finally cooking at the White Horse at Boughton.
When the previous licensee left abbruptly there was grave concern in the village that it would become either student acommodation or a curry house - both of which have thanks to Glen Richards taking over been avoided.
With the help of a really friendly team of staff, and his Dad helping out when he can, this is shaping up to be a blessing in disguise.
If you stayed away due to some odd practices here in the past, come back and enjoy it with renewed vigour.
Great Menu, good prices, really fantastic friendly service and well kept Shepherd Neame beers and guest ales.

Was looking for somewhere different to take my wife for a meal on our wedding anniversary and remembered the Old Coach having delivered meat products to the pub when I worked out of Brogdale in 2010. We were so glad we booked it as we were blown away by the flavours of the food. Definitely the best spring rolls for starters I have tasted and the pork cutlet for mains I had was to die for. This was topped off by the absolutely best Summer Fruit Pudding I have ever tasted. Darren the chef is superb at enhancing the natural flavours of the food and you never get the cooking taste in the food you find in so many other eating establishments which indicate to me his kitchen is very clean. We have eaten in many top class restaurants including Michelin Star establishments and the food at the Old Coach rates higher than some of these. In the words of Arnie, " I'll Be Back".

Our visit on 27th Sept 2010 didn't start too well. No parking available by the door for my wife who is disabled. Then a 10 minutes wait by the bar as there was not a soul around to serve. Eventually a very pleasent, but very harrassed lady appeared who efficiently dealt with the backlog of about six drinkers and diners awaiting attention. That's the downside. After that, things got better. The food was magnificent. My wife and I had pan fried sea bass with wild mushrooms and fennel and my son and his wife both had excellent rib eye steak. The service was good from the young waiter and we would definitely visit again when next in the area. A real gem of a place, full of character and interest and very good value.

Why do I think the Coach and Horses is the best? They serve consistently good, fresh and very flavourful food. Their prices are reasonable.
It is a nice venue for lunch, but they also serve dinner and can cater for a party just as well. Charlotte and Hetty have always been very welcoming. Long may you stay!

We had the Christmas menu booked for 23 people and everyone was very impressed with their meals. The food was all freshly cooked and all came out hot (which lots of places seem to find hard when there are a lot of people). Service was good and had our own private dining room on the 1st floor. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Popped in for lunch recently. Fantastic. Really enjoyed the food, surroundings and the people there. One of the few places in Canterbury with Peroni on tap, if thatʼs your thing!
