Tesco gets the go ahead in Rugeley

Tesco has finally been given the go-ahead to build a new store in Rugeley. The store will be welcomed by many, but its confirmed building will also be the final nail in the coffin for some town traders.

The council has supported the application hoping it will lead to regeneration of the town and offer variety for those shopping in Rugeley, preventing the need to go out of the town.

Rugeley traders seem split over the development as many see Tesco removing the need to visit the town centre where prices will typically be higher and parking chargable.

Ultimately only time will tell the effects of Tesco on Rugeley, personally I think the already run down town centre will be severly affected.

The development will include a superstore, petrol station and additional units for restaurant and leisure uses.

You are probably right regarding the death of Rugeley but unfortunatly it is what consumers want. But maybe, with the extra revenue the local authority will recieve from tesco, they could stop charging for town centre parking....It works for Hednesford and Brownhills and gives good traffic management in Chasetown. Simple! report abuse...
