Cannock Leisure Centre set for redevelopment

Cannock Chase leisure centre is long overdue a development with tired and dated facilities.

Cannock Chase Council is urging residents to see the designs for the redevelopment of Chase Leisure Centre at a special event on Wednesday 19th May.

Designs and artists’ impressions will be available at Chase Leisure Centre from 3.30pm until 8.30pm. Council officers from the leisure team will be available to answer questions and a questionnaire can be completed for residents to make their views known.

The existing 33.3m six-lane swimming pool will be rebuilt, based on existing foundations; a new 150-station fitness suite with its own dedicated changing rooms will be established; and electrical and mechanical systems will be replaced. Space for spectators would be increased by 60 to 230 and the existing teaching pool would be refurbished. The front of the building will also be revamped, with a new curved roof.

Planning permission has been granted for the plans and key partners like an architect and building surveyor have been selected.

The Council has also submitted a bid to Sport England for funding. Other funding sources include affordable borrowing, extra income generated by a larger fitness suite and other external grant funding.

Let’s hope that the development goes through quickly to bring the leisure services up to the standard that we all expect.
