My trusted builder for over 20 years....I have used Saxon’s for all my building work since they built a small home extension for me in 1986. Since then they have built another home extension, designed and built a family house and, most recently installed a loft conversion. Throughout all these projects they have continued to provide a superb service and maintained a very high standard of workmanship. Converting the loft into a master bedroom and en-suite shower room….We are delighted with our new loft rooms and with the service that we received from Saxon John Brown throughout the building project. One of the reasons that we used your company is that we received a complete service from design stage, through the planning process, building and internal decorations.At each stage we were impressed by the professionalism of your team. Building work began when we had a three month old baby and our daughter was two years old but your building team did a wonderful job of minimising the disruption and the house was left extremely tidy when your workmen left every night. Converting our loft into a master bedroom with en-suite shower room has made a huge difference to the house. A loft conversion is the way to go....After living in our mid terraced house for over eight years, we have truly fallen in love with it and the area that it sits in. Our neighbours are the best you could ever ask for; we have looked at larger properties over the years but have never found one that ticks all the right boxes. So expansion was the only option for us and after hearing the catching jingle on Heart Radio a number of times, it was time to give Saxon John Brown a call about the possibility of converting our loft.From the initial contact with Saxon’s there was total professionalism from the start to finish. The two guys Jason and Simon that worked on our conversion are a true credit to the company and ensured that everything went as smooth as it possibly could. So my wife and I, along with our young son, would like to say a big thank you for making the space in the roof of our house a beautiful room in our home.
We were delighted with the full-service experience we received from SJB. The fact that they project managed the build with their team made the whole process stress free. Alan did an excellent job of explaining the process and what would be involved and everything ran smoothly. The variation orders that were sent through the duration of the build made it easy for us to keep track of where any additional expenditure was required and all options were open to discussion to ensure that we got what we wanted and needed within our available budget. We were told that our build would take 8 weeks and it took 8 weeks and 1 day. Given the additional work which we asked SJB to do as the build progressed, this was excellent and relatively unheard of in the building industry. They were also ready to start a week earlier than initially planned which was great.The quality of the build is excellent and we still can’t quite believe how such a large and useful room was created out of what seemed to be a relatively small space. The quality and workmanship of the staff and contractors was fantastic and we have a number of finishes, particularly with the plastering which we are very pleased with. Even the inevitable items on the snagging list were dealt with quickly and professionally.

Everyone that worked here and all the people I came into contact with – either in person or on the phone, made a huge effort to make sure that things ran smoothly.I particularly mention your site staff who worked extremely hard and put in long hours to ensure the loft conversion was completed as soon as possible. I was impressed with their punctuality, how well they cleared up and the quality of their workmanship.It was a very difficult time for us to have work done as we were expecting the arrival of a baby at any point! Also, with a very shy 3 year old, things could have been disruptive. But your staff made the experience as enjoyable as it possibly could have been and made a huge effort with my daughter, which we are very grateful for. I just wanted to thank you for our superb loft conversion. We are amazed at how much space we have and the boys are thrilled with their new bedrooms and bathroom.The project was run extremely professionally and your staff worked hard to minimise any disruption. As you know, we had lived in our house for ten years. With the children growing up, we realised the property was no longer big enough. We began looking to move to a bigger house and then one of our friends recommended that we should speak to Saxon John Brown about the possibility of converting the loft.When one of your designers first visited us, it quickly became apparent that our roof was not suitable to convert easily but luckily it did not end there. Your idea of literally “raising the roof” seemed to be a massive upheaval but in fact everything worked out brilliantly and we now have 2 new rooms plus an extra bathroom – all for half the price it would have cost us to move to a property of the equivalent size. The bonus to us is the children can remain in their school. You at Saxon John Brown took care of everything and your staff were very helpful throughout – all we had to do was choose the colour to paint the walls and put in the new furniture. We should have spoken to you years ago!
You at Saxon John Brown were the most professional loft builder we approached and this was maintained throughout the design and build phases. We wanted an organisation that would take care of everything – and that’s precisely what we got. There are so many Victorian properties in Cambridge like ours - we just hadn’t realised the potential that was just above our heads!We knew you had built loft conversions close by and once we asked you to pop in and have a look you made the whole process so easy. We now have a beautiful bedroom with en-suite shower room on the second floor. It was intended to be reserved for guests but it quickly became the favourite room of the house, so we’ve turned it into the master bedroom.The great bonus from all of this – one of us now works from home in the spare room. And we are so lucky thanks to your clever design – you suggested installing French doors in the new dormer overlooking the university playing field – how nice it is watching a game of cricket on a peaceful summer’s day.We certainly recommend inviting Saxon John Brown to make the attic a “loft conversion Cambridge”.
