Originally an Augustinian priory that was built in 1236 that was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1536, Anglesey Abbey has undergone many transformations in its long and rich history. It was turned into a country home, with wealthy families making it their home for centuries until 1966, when it was entrusted into the National Trust's care upon the last owner, Lord Fairhaven's death. Now boasting a brand new Scandinavian-style visitor's centre, which sits comfortably alongside the Abbey's ancient roots, Anglesey Abbey is one of the region's finest wedding venues. From a small ceremony in what was once the monks' sitting room almost 800 years ago to a large evening reception in the Glade Marquee Suite, Anglesey Abbey offers discerning couples the opportunity to marry in a truly unique and beautiful setting. The Robinson Room, Dining Room and Lower Gallery are all licensed to hold civil ceremonies. Please note that as Anglesey Abbey is a National Trust property and open to the public, some rooms have certain restrictions. However, the Functions Team will do their utmost to make your dream a reality, whether large and lavish or small and intimate. They will help you plan the day from start to finish and can also offer guidance on recommended entertainment. Please contact Anglesey Abbey on 01223 810 092 for more information.
