Cambridge was awash with excitement over the weekend as celebrity chef and fine food champion Jamie Oliver returned to his hometown for the opening of his new Italian restaurant on Wheeler Street.

Part of his ongoing chain of 'Jamie's Italians' opening throughout the UK, Jamie made sure he was in town for opening of his new eatery, as well as tasking his mentor and television co-star Gennaro Contaldo to train the new staff preparing to face the Cambridge foodies.

Growing up in and around Cambridge, Jamie's interest in cooking is well known to have been sparked whilst living and working at his parents pub in Clavering and Jamie plans to make the new Cambridge restaurant his 'local'.

With another restaurant due to open in Reading next month and another five rolling out across the UK in the next five months, Jamie's Italian in Cambridge marks a milestone in the chef's career as he ventures into business in his once hometown.

We have just returned from our first and last meal at JO restuarant. The staff were excellent but the main course left much to be desired! The pasta has tough and chewy and my husband found it like chewing tough rope. I was very diappointed as my son and his partner had joined us from London and it was not worth the trip up for this meal. So.............cannot recommend this restuarant Finally, not worth the money we paid. report abuse...
