FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who are you?

We are a group of men based in the Hampshire/Surrey area who love to sing. Previously known as 'The Rushmoor Odd Fellows Male Voice Choir' we are starting a new life as the Hampshire and Surrey Hills Men's Choir.

We delight in entertaining our audiences, raising money for charity and having fun doing it!

We help raise up to £10,000 each year for good causes.

What sort of music do you sing?

The music we sing is wide ranging, from classical anthems to show tunes and popular songs of the 20th and 21st centuries. Our repertoire is carefully selected to suit a variety of tastes and be fun and enjoyable for the singers as well as the audience. We are not a religious affiliated organisation although we do sing some religious pieces of music. We even have some musical items specially arranged for us.

Where do you rehearse and perform?

We rehearse every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the hall at North Camp Methodist Church on Lynchford Road in Farnborough, with breaks in July/August plus Christmas and Easter. Each rehearsal is 2 hours including a 15 minute break to catchup with friends.

We organise our own concerts twice a year (currently at Farnham Maltings in December and Camberley High Cross in June) and appear in multiple venues around North Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey to help local good causes. In addition we occasionally join other choirs in concerts outside of our core region.

I've no musical experience and can't read music - can I join?

You do not need to read music to join, and we don't audition you - so don't worry. You will gradually learn all you need to sing effectively with the help of our highly experienced MD and music teacher, Philip Viveash-Brainch, who has led Taplow Choirs, was head of music at Tiffin Grammar School for Girls and MD of St Thomas on the Bourne. You will also find your fellow singers are delighted to help guide you and the MD provides rehearsal tracks that you can use to improve at home.

Can I just turn up at the `Taster Evening without booking?

We need your registration to organise the catering for enough people. It is free - so book now!
