Camberley - a great town for motor fans!

Camberley has just hosted a third, and very successful, Car Show.
The event was organised by Ken Bonner and Collectively Camberley to raise money for the South West Thames Kidney Fund.

However, Camberley has a proud history of being the venue for motor enthusiasts - the first ever motorbike scramble was organised here and Sparks garage stands as a memorial to a very successful local competitor.
I also have a vintage motoring gem - the Official Programme (price 3 pence) of the 1925 Great Motor Rodeo, held on August Bank Holiday in the Royal Military College grounds. This time the charities were the The Royal Berkshire Hospital, The Frimley District Cottage Hospital and the Duchess of Connaught's Memorial Nursing Home (in Bagshot).
Events included Surf-Riding (dragging a surf board behind a motor-bike while competitors balanced on it) and Motor Cycle Football (Basingstoke versus Camberley).
Modern safety concerns probably preclude re-running this event, but the date has already been fixed for the next Camberley Car Show - pop the 22nd August 2015 in your diary if you are interested!
