The Met is a centre of live music noted nationally for its high quality programme of folk, roots and acoustic music. As an independent charity, The Met works to develop a growing audience to experience the arts and nurturing traditional talent to grow into national stars, staging over 200 live events per year. The Met is organiser and promoter of a number of outdoor events including the annual Ramsbottom Festival.

PRS for Music analysed data of more than 10,000 live music events in 2011. In a year where the focus is on sporting venues, the report celebrates the value of all venues and reinforces music is at the heart of Britain’s creative industries. The music business is worth £3.9bn to the UK economy and live music is an essential contributor to growth.

David Agnew, Director of The Met comments, “In a difficult year it is really pleasing to see our venue thrive and grow as more audiences are prepared to come out for live music in the north west. Growth of interest in folk and traditional music have contributed to the ongoing success of The Met. We hope that development of our recording studio and Ramsbottom Festival will further support both new audiences and emerging artists in the region”

The Met is an independent arts and entertainment venue run by Bury Metropolitan Arts Association, supported by Bury Council and an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. For more information and to see a list of forthcoming shows please go to www.themet.biz
