SuperJosh at launch of Manchester Airport Changing Places facilities
Dawn Fidler, Mum of Joshua Wilson aka SuperJosh, and Changing Places campaigner, was invited to attend the opening of the North West’s latest Changing Places facilities at three of Manchester Airport’s passenger terminals.

The newly installed facilities have been designed to meet the needs of passengers who have profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and other passengers with severe disabilities who need the support of at least one carer, providing them with a safe and easy toilet facility to use when travelling through the airport.

One of the key goals of the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour charity is to help raise awareness of the need for improved changing facilities for young people and adults.

Josh himself wore pads and the older he got, it became increasing difficult when out and about to find places to change him. The charity therefore wants to awareness of this to the public, businesses & organisations and work with them to improve their facilities.

Dawn was invited to the Manchester Airport launch, by fellow campaigners, the Clough family.

Dawn said “I was delighted to be involved with the launch. It’s not often that you have your photo taken in a public toilet but its amazing that Manchester Airport have got on board with the Changing Places scheme and have installed not one but three facilities. These will be of benefit to a great many families like ours.”

“ Whilst there are usually baby-changing facilities for parents and carers to use, facilities for those who need to change older and larger children and adults are few and far between, yet our need is still as great. We just need more companies, venues and public places to make these facilities available. Thank you Manchester Airport and equipment providers Clos-o-mat”

The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity relies on the support of local people to enable to provide the services offered.

Joshua was 3 ½ when he was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour. Life-saving surgery to remove the tumour left Josh with serious post-operative complications.
On Josh’s 13th Birthday in 2013, Josh and his mum, Dawn, launched the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity with the aim of helping other families living with childhood brain tumours and post-operative complications. The charity, The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, went on to raise £100,000 in its first year of existence.

From Christmas 2013 Dawn was told seven times in eight months her son only had 48 hours to live. Josh defied all odds, and turned 14 in August of 2014 but sadly died in November.

Since his passing, Dawn and Josh’s other family members have maintained their commitment to his Charity and have remained active and engaged with all of the charity’s supporters.
