Discover the beauty of our local countryside with the East Lancashire Railway, which runs between Heywood and Rawtenstall. The East Lancs Railway is an integral part of Bury's heritage and offer reduced travel fares for local residents. If you live in Rossendale, Bury or Rochdale you can apply for a resident's permit which allows you to use the trains for all your travel needs- whether you're going on a shopping trip or planning a day out.

The East Lancs Railway is a pleasant way to travel in all weathers, with traditional steam trains crossing the River Irwell and climbing up into the beautiful Rossendale Valley. Known as the North West's Premier Heritage Railway the ELR attracts over 120,000 visitors a year. The East Lancs Railway is a registered charity and relies on the generosity of unpaid volunteers and donations to preserve it.
