Summer holidays. For kids they can be a really magical time, a well-deserved break from school. However, for adults who work and still have childcare to think about, summer holidays can be a real nightmare.

Luckily for parents here in Bury, there's an array of activities happening around the borough. They're the perfect way to avoid holiday boredom and keep the kids entertained. Even better, many of these activities only have a small charge and some are completely free!

The fun kicks off with Summer Camps at Bury Football Club, where kids aged 5-13 years can take part in activities such as athletics, cheerleading, street dance, boot camps, gymnastics, crafts, games and of course, football. You can book for just one day of activities or for a full five days.

Over at The Fusilier Museum, kids can get involved in a number of hands-on activities such as Make A Minden Rose, Set The Scene, Summer Fruit Skewers and Make a Mad Hatter's Hat. These activities will take place outside in Gallipoli Garden or inside in the event of bad weather.

Summer visitors to Bury Transport Museum can also take part in Kids Craft Workshops (lots of different activities here!) and become a super sleuth for the day in the Family Mystery Show. Younger children in particular will love the Teddy Bear's Party and Treasure Hunt, not to mention the ever-popular Day Out With Thomas event at the East Lancs Railway.

Kids who prefer to explore the great outdoors can get involved in a number of nature-themed activities at Chesham Local Nature Reserve, which take place every Monday and Tuesday until 27th August. Activities include bug hunts, den making and pond dipping - all free of charge!

And of course, some of our fantastic recommended businesses are offering some fantastic special deals for summer. Kids can eat for free at Santino on Sundays and enjoy a meal plus a splash in the pool on Village Hotel Bury's Dip & Dine deal.

Other things to keep in mind include travel to and from activities - if you don't have a car, or just fancy a drink afterwards, make sure you've got a taxi number saved in your phone - Elton Bullitt is our first choice. Speaking of travel, a good dog walking and pet sitting service can come in handy when you're heading out on a day trip and your pet has to be left at home. Carol from Bark-n-Ride has very affordable rates and will be delighted to help you.

If entertainment is a problem and the kids are driving you bonkers with the TV, why not consider getting Sky in an extra room? Mitchell from Walshaw Aerial Services can do this for only £75 and he'll even throw in an extra remote control. As for those summer barbeques, adults and kids alike will love the tasty skewers offer from Vujon.

And last but not least, if all these activities and the general madness of the summer holidays have their toll on you, we've got some fantastic pampering packages at Leelawadee Authentic Thai Massage & Spa to help you recharge.
