The White Ribbon Campaign
Charitable Organisation in Bury supporting the end to violence against women.

What is the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC)?
The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men's violence against women. All of our localised campaigns rely heavily on volunteer support and financial contributions from individuals and organizations from within Bury and its surrounding areas.

How did the WRC get started?
The White Ribbon Campaign began back in 1991 by a handful of men in Canada who felt they had a responsibility in urging men to speak out against violence against women. The White ribbon became the symbol behind this great cause.

Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

There are now White Ribbon Campaigns in force all over the world in local towns just like Bury. White Ribbon Campaign began in the Uk in 2004 and has continued to go from strength to strength as awareness of this good cause has heightened. There are many events throughout the year that help us maintain our good work.

Each year both men and boys are encouraged to wear a ribbon for one or two weeks, starting on November 25. This is the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women

What are the goals of the WRC and how do volunteers accomplish these objectives?
We are an educational organization to encourage reflection and discussion that leads to personal and collective action among men. Through the course of the year we encourage men to get involved in educational work within schools, workplaces and communities and to support local womens groups. we also distribute educational and action kits to schools alongside rasing money for international educational efforts and maintain our website. None of this would be possible without volunteers and help from the local community.

The white Ribbon Campaign here in Bury is run by a group of volunteers and representatives who are dedicated to supporting this local charitable organisation. We are more than interested in talking to you if you would like to find out more about how to become involved. We receive no government funding and so our funding comes mainly from contribution from supporters like yourselves. We have many fundraising events throughout the year in Bury such as a sportsmans dinners and a mile in their shoes walks. You too can become involved.
