After a 13 year ban on boxing in Bury, the sport has been revived in the form of super-bantamweight Scott Quigg. Scott aims to achieve for Bury what Amir Khan has done for Bolton - putting his home town on the map in the boxing world.
Scott has been trained and promoted by Ricky Hatton, the two IBF and IBO light welterweight champion. At just 21 years old, Scott has won all of his 17 of his professional fights with 11 of them inside the distance.
Hatton Promotions, one of the most ambitious promotional companies in the UK, staged their first Bury show in earlier in the year, which proved to be a great success for Scott in his home town. The show attracted over 1,200 fans as he triumphed over Russia's Andrey Kostin in just one round. Scott has already been tipped as one of boxing's rising stars with a huge scope for many more successes in the near future.
Early Professional Career
Scott's professional debut took place in April 2007 at Manchester's Jarvis Hotel, with a brilliant victory over Gary Shiel. This was followed quickly by four more wins that year and six in 2008, including a victory over Ghana's Sumaila Badu in the first round. After watching this fight Boxing News reporter Danny Flexen claimed he had "never seen a more complete prospect" with less than 10 fights under his belt.
Throughout 2009 Scott took on five more professional fights, again gaining a victory each time. During the final fight last year, Scott won against the former Ukrainian national champion and former European title challenger Yuriy Voronin at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan.
