Brief History
The Airfield was built by Richard Costain in 1942 and originally covered 250 acres of the Agnew's estate. The main runway, 50 yards wide, ran from East to West for 2000 yards, now reduced to 1000 yards and put down to grass and is available for light aircraft.

During World War II, it was occupied by the USAF's 94th Bomb Group with B17 bombers. A total of 1,800 crew lost their lives on missions and a memorial was recently erected near the Control Tower in their memory.

Venue for Hire
The airfield is available for hire to leisure organisations - areas are already rented to the Bury Model Flying Club, Suffolk Kite Flyers Club, BR Racing, Suffolk Landrover Owner's Club (off-road course) and to an annual dog show.

We have had discussions with a Parascending & Hang gliding Club and are talking about a VW Rally. Rougham Airfield has hosted auctions, horse shows, corporate challenges and music festivals.

The site is used regularly for photographic shoots. The BBC recently used Rougham Airfield to shoot some of The Hairy Bikers cookery shows and also used the site for a documentary programme on the Red Baron.

Site Details
The grass Airfield is split by the runway into two sections:

The North side offers 22.18 hectares of which 13 hectares is a venue site and 9.18 hectares is available for parking vehicles.

The South side offers 19.6 Hectares with a main site area of 12.72 hectares and 6.34 hectares suitable for parking.

In August, except for the middle weekend, the cropped areas become available adding an additional stubble of 6.29 hectares to the North side and 25.35 hectares to the South side. As the runway has to be available for emergency landings, thus splitting the site, the whole area available in August is 72.78 hectares.
