For all those Christmas shoppers passing through Burton in the festive period, there is some excellent news! It has been revealed that Burton’s Market Place will house a skating rink to draw local customers in!

The rink will be 1,000 sq ft, and will be opened on November 22nd and it will remain there until the end of January as confirmed by the East Staffordshire Borough Council. The leader of the Council, Richard Grosvenor, said: “It is great to be able to offer an attraction to the people of the borough that many would normally not have the opportunity to participate in.

“We really want to make visiting the town an enjoyable experience, and would love to attract new visitors to the town and the borough as a whole. “We are also pleased to announce that the rink will be free to use on both the opening night and Christmas Eve.”

At any other time it shall be £5 for adults and then £3.50 for children, the rink shall open at 10am and will close at 7pm.

Town centre manager Paul Howard said: “An ice rink is something we have wanted to include as part of the town centre festive celebrations for some time now, but our efforts have been hampered due to a lack of space in a suitable and central location. “I hope the local community and beyond enjoy having such a great family attraction on their doorstep.”

This ice rink shall be a real treat for us  all, and should draw people in to spend money locally. It will also bring us closer as  a community, and provide a great source of entertainment!
