about us
Welcome to me and dee, the charity for anyone, of any age, with a life threatening or shortening condition. Me and Dee raise funds to offer treats, creating special moments and memories where time is precious.
Maria Hanson set up the charity in 2006, and as a disabled woman herself, her personal experiences fuelled her passion to set up this unbelievable organisation. Maria's close cousin Delia, shared this passion for providing unforgettable treats for anyone, of any age, with a life threatening / shortening condition.
Sadly, in 2005 Delia died from cancer before the pair could achieve their dreams together. With the help of her daughters, family, friends and supports, me&dee is now arranging special moments that create lasting memories all over the UK - with on growing support from numerous resources, the organisation has progressed from creating 15 me&dee special moments a year, to creating 15 a month!
Me&Dee are currently receiving up to 20 nominations a month. With 'special moment' treats offered at around £100 each, the charity needs to sustain at least £2,000 a month to cover these.
Twenty people donating just £5 to Me&Dee will allow us to create a very special moment when time is very precious indeed, as you can see from just some of the stories on the site.

Hi Maria. I would just like to say thank you again for the monumental effort which it must have taken to put the Narnia Ball together on Saturday. My Daughters Jenny and Emma loved it. My wife Sara is in St Giles Hospice at the moment and had told us not to visit that day as she knew I had a lot to do to get the girls ready. We decided to surprise her anyway, in full costume! She lit up when she saw them, it was fantastic to see her pain and spirits lifted while they assaulted her with their tales of the ball. Good feelings are highly infectious, bless you x
Maria, I got a surprise in the post yesterday. Thank you. This is how my day went. Get up, call district nurses to find out how to get my wife into hospital as she seems to have broken her hip again. Get my wife onto an ambulance, get the kids off to friends houses, pack a bag for my wife and back to hospital. Cue waiting around... Turns out that the pin in Sara's femur has broken, I always thought steel was stronger than bone but she's always full of surprises! Finally get Sara settled on the orthopedic ward, round up the kids and feed them McDonalds (our version of hospital food now) and get home, check the post... I've been given a track day from Me and Dee!... Digest that information... Smile... realise that's the first time I've done that today! What a wonderful surreal moment! Thank you sooo much xxx
Narnia was the first place we have been to since our daughter was diagnosed that catered for our entire family. It is a memory we will all cherish forever and we just want to do what little we can to ensure you are able do this for other families in the future. We often feel isolated and that we don't quite fit in when we go out, but not in Narnia. What you do is very special and completely unique.
I would like to take a few moments to let you know just how beneficial the Mee & Dee packs are for our parents/carers on the Children’s Intensive Care Unit, the Leicester Children’s Hospital. Many of the parents/ carers of our patients rush out of the house with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. They have a critically ill child & are often transported from somewhere in the East Midlands to Leicester. They arrive in a strange place under extremely stressful circumstances. To be given a Mee & Dee comfort pack to see them through the first day or 2 is vital. The pack ensures that the parents are not forced to leave their child to go in search of a shop that sells toothbrushes & deodorant is a god send. All the parents that have received the packs are extremely grateful, the lip salve (due to dry air conditioning), the snack bars & soups, the toiletries & the puzzle books all make the first day or 2 seem more bearable. The parents say that the receiving the pack really brightens their day. The additional supplies that you send us, tea, coffee, dummies etcetera are also extremely valuable. Your supply of tea & coffee for the parents saves them money whilst they are reliant purchasing food & drink from the hospital. Providing distressed babies & toddlers with dummies (if their parents are happy) is often gratefully received.
Dear Me and Dee I am writing to thank you on behalf of Kids Zone 21 .You very kindly paid for a mobile Petting Zoo to attend an annual Easter get together for children with Downs Syndrome. The company (Zootastics) that you sent were fantastic. The afternoon started with games and dancing then after some food the animals were brought out. The children ( and adults!!) all had a fantastic time and we can’ thank you enough. We have been meeting at Easter for a few years now but t has always been very low key and done very cheaply. Being able to have the zoo was brilliant. I have attached some photos so that you can see for yourself what a lovely time was had by all. Thanks again Carol and Erica

"me&dee have provided us with wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Fighting a brain tumour for 9 years is a long time, especially when you are only just 10 years old, like my brave daughter Poppy. Her life so far has been like living on a roller coaster - special treats, in amongst the fear & pain have provided a much needed release. Wonderful Maria has arranged for Poppy to be a bridesmaid, to spend a day with the Birmingham Royal Ballet & to watch Hairspray. Those memories are simply priceless.
