The Old Gaol Museum of Buckingham
Take a trip to one of the first purpose-built county gaols in England and discover the story of Buckingham.
A trip around the Museum takes you through the story of the old county town, from Jurassic times, through the Viking occupation and the rich industrial history of the lace making era, to the Buckingham of today.
The Old Gaol, built in 1748 and now a popular tourist attraction, looks like a castle and is an early example of 18th century Gothic architecture. The ancient cells, with their double doors still remain!
The strange appearance and interesting history is reflected in it being chosen as one of the 'Jewels of Milton Keynes’.
