No Barriers Award presented to the Strand Cafe'

Nominations for the first ever Bromsgrove No Barriers Disabled Access Awards closed in May 2011.

The Strand Cafe' are proud to have been presented with this award because :

"They have a corner which they transformed because of not being able to get down steps with wheelchairs, very helpful"

When the nomination was put to the Bromsgrove Disabled Access Group at their panel meeting, they agreed straightaway that this was an excellent response to a difficult access problem.

The Strand Shopping Centre is a listed building and was not designed or built with disabled people in mind. Access without this solution was difficult for many disabled people. Hence this solution was applied by the owner of the Cafe', Lesley Garvey. It was seen to be innovative and showed a very positive approach towards less abled people.
