Local youngsters show their caring side

CARING youngsters at a Lickey End playgroup have been supporting a tree planting scheme.

The playgroup, based at Lickey End Methodist Church, in Alcester Road, won a number of trees in a competition run by Sainsbury’s, in conjunction with the National Trust.

As part of National Tree Week, children presented the trees to Andrew Bucklitch, Bromsgrove District Council tree officer and park officer Colin Measham.

They are to be planted in the corner of the Lickey End park near to the playgroup, where the old gateway used to be, alongside the main road.

This will reconnect the hedgerow and create a valuable area of wildlife cover, helping to keep the park secure by thickening up the boundary.

Among the trees donated were six cherry plums, four crab apples, six blackthorn, five elder, five hazel and a rose bush.
