The Queen’s Head Inn, in Bromsgrove, will be running a special ‘Apple Week’, from 25 – 31 October, in association with Array, the local fruit farm. The promotion follows the official national apple day, which took place on October 21.
National apple day was launched by Common Ground 21 years ago. Common Ground, a charitable organisation based in Dorset, is internationally recognised for supporting the UK’s fruit farming industry. Apple Week at The Queen’s Head Inn will celebrate the versatility of cooking with apples and aims to raise local awareness of the importance of supporting British fruit growers, like Array.
Diners at the canal-side restaurant, in Stoke Pound, will be able to enjoy a specially created gourmet Apple Week menu, with dishes prepared using different varieties of apples supplied by Array. Traditional favourites will be available, such as pork with apple sauce and home-made apple pie. The bespoke menu will also feature some more contemporary offerings, such as crispy duck with apples, ginger and honey; Apple Tarte Tatin, apple and stilton ice-cream and apple brulée.
Apple-tastic fun for children during half term
For children there are two great apple-tastic offerings. A special menu will be prepared for younger diners, to include food with an apple twist, such as pork and apple sausage roll and sticky toffee apple sponge pudding. The Queen’s Head will also be running day-time activity sessions for children – providing something a little different for them to do during the half term school break.
With plenty of apple-related fun on offer, kids can enjoy colouring apple pictures, getting messy with apple printing, make an apple person to take home, listen to the story of Johnny Appleseed and watch apples being crushed in a press, to make juice which they can drink.
The activity sessions will be available between 12 noon and 3pm, Monday October 25 – Friday October 29, and are primarily suitable for children aged 5 – 9 years. The cost per child will be £5 or £4 if booked in advance.
“We are proud to be running this promotion in association with another local business,” says Gianni D’Aniello, owner of The Queen’s Head Inn. “In recognition of the apples being donated by Array we will also be selling home-made apple pies during the week. All profits will be donated to the NSPCC and the British Legion. With something on offer for everyone I hope people will come down to support our celebration of local apples.”
