"The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra return with the outstanding British conductor, Bramwell Tovey, at the helm. They are joined by violinist Sarah Chang who, at just 21, is recognized as one of classical music’s most captivating and gifted performers. Together they perform Sibelius’ poignant yet boldly romantic violin concerto. Kicking off the proceedings is Dvorák’s overture from Othello. Telling the story of Othello’s jealousy and loathing of his wife, Desdemona, the dramatic overture features typical Dvorákian rhythmic combinations and dark colours.
We complete the evening with Walton’s first symphony which took him three years to complete as he wrestled with self doubt. It was worth the wait, however, as this wonderful work conveys a strong sense of personal victory and fulfilment." (Colston Hall)
