The Bag O' Nails - Bristol Pubs Testimonials

A quaint little old man pub of the first degree, this place specialises in real ales and feeling old. They specialise in obscure real ales that I haven't seen anywhere else - they're a proud free house and you certainly find the usual list of brand lagers. Worth warning that it's absolutely tiny, so you'll be lucky to get a seat on a Friday or Saturday evening.

It's down in Hotwells and a bit more salt of the earth than anything you'll find up the road in Clifton. This is refreshing, a pub definitely doesn't need to be immaculately decorated and have a Michelin stared menu.

They get a steady stream of die-hard regulars, who you feel would continue drinking here if the roof came off. You can see why the place inspires devotion, it's got bags (o' nails, haha!) more character than 99% of pubs in the nearby city centre. The Bag o' nails is small but perfectly formed, if what you look for in a pub is real ales and a décor that hasn't changed too much in the last twenty years.
