It is not an understatement to say that this is the best carribbean restaurant for miles around. I completely love this place and the main reason is because the main man (who in this case is actually a woman), is a legend. Beverley Forbes founded and runs this restaurant and is such a lovely lady. Shes very passionate about what She does and that really comes across in the atmosphere here, which is chilled yet vibrant. The kitchen is open plan so you can see Her at work. This is the fourth time I've eaten here and the food is always amazing. The buffet is a great option for those who want to try a variety of dishes.
I enjoy good quality caribbean food. Jerk chicken is my favourite Caribbean dish. I had heard really positive comments from friends and associates who tried Plantation and its exclusive Caribbean menu. A few of my friends were coming to Bristol so we decided to give Plantation a try.Wow.. we felt welcomed as we walked in. The staff were very courteous and helpful. It was on a Saturday night and Plantation had all you can eat Caribbean buffet. The restaurant was buzzing.. there was a live band playing to the left of the front door.. Really nice jazzy background music. The music just added another dimension to the atmosphere. The buffet was layed out in hot plates at the back of the restaurant. There was a choice of two soups; vegetable and beef soup. Again typically caribbean both in looks, taste and texture. I tried them both and I have to say they were both excellent. What a choice for main course or should I say courses? Rice and peas had a home cooked feel and aroma. There was curry goat, Jerk chicken, escoveitched fish. Plantationʼs jerk chicken was simply out of this world. I loved it. James and his wife wanted vegetarian food. I was somewhat concerned about vegetarian food on my way to the restaurant. To my surprise, there was Ackee and mushrooms, steamed callaloo, Curied chana, Fried plantains, fried dumplings, creole salad and coleslaw. We all had our fills twice and took a break for some timely plantations own cocktails. They made my head spin but I enjoyed them.Talking about hospitality. The buffet, on the occassion that we were at the restaurant, was located next to the open kitchen. Beverley the chef took time from cooking to say hello to us. She even came out of the kitchen and chatted with all the customers. Finally, when she came to our table and sat with us for a few minutes. She offered to take us round for a tour of the restaurant. Plantation is a big restaurant divided into three separate sections. Ideal for private parties. I have to tell you Beverleyʼs warm and bright smile and welcoming personality made our evening. My guests were impressed with the food and the people. 3 months on, we still talk about our evening at the restaurant. what a place..
