THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE..


It’s Vegfest at the weekend – two days celebrating vegan food and lifestyle at the Brighton Centre.  You’ll be able to buy food (obviously) as well as clothes, bodycare products, accessories and gifts.  You’ll have the chance to sample lots of tasters, and there will be cookery demos, comedy, talks, info, performanced  and  even speed dating (Saturday). If you like running and you enjoy dressing up, you’ll love the Chicken Run that’s taking place at Hove Park on Sunday at 10am. There’s a 5k run for anyone over 13, a mile for 7-13 year olds with a 500 metre dash for anyone aged 5-13. Your entry fee includes your chicken costume (in case you don’t have your own….) a finisher’s model, chocolate egg and a week’s free BMF membership. Sign up by Saturday and it will cost £19.50 for the 5k, £11 for the mile or £10 for 500 metres, with a slight increase for most races if you choose to pay on the day. Visit Art Junky on Saturday and Sunday for more than 50 stalls of art, crafts, gifts, books, vintage, jewellery, live DJs and more. Kids are welcome (with under 10s admitted free) and there are crafty activities and face-painting to keep them amused. It’s taking place at the Phoenix Brighton Art Gallery, 10-14 Waterloo Place, Brighton. Admission if you’re over 10 is just £1. More details on www.phoenixbrighton.org/events-phoenix/
 
The Old Market in Upper Market Street, Hove, is a venue for theatre, dance and more. On Saturday, it’s hosting the Swallowsfeet Festival, a vibrant night of contemporary dance performances.
