CCHF All About Kids, now based close to Brighton and Hove, has supported severely disadvantaged children for over 125 years. We rely 100% on voluntary donations and dedicated volunteers to deliver residential activity and respite breaks for children.
Originally called "The Children's Fresh Air Mission (Off to the Country)" the charity's aim was to take children from London's slums away to the country or seaside for holidays in the fresh air. The later name changed to the Children's Country Holidays Fund (CCHF). 125 years later, and now called CCHF All About Kids, we are still supporting children living in poverty.
Since our work begun, we have provided over 2 million disadvantaged children with a range of residential activity and respite breaks which allow them to escape the traumas of their everyday life and simply become children again.
We work with around 130 referral organisations (including schools, young carer support organisations and social services departments) who refer children, aged 7 - 12 who are in need.
Some of the issues these children face include:
• Living in severe poverty
• Witnessing domestic violence
• Experiencing physical, emotional, neglect and sexual abuse
• Being surrounded by dangerous environments and neighbourhoods
• Having low self-esteem
• Being young carers for a parent or sibling
Through our service we:
• Build children's confidence and self-esteem
• Improve communication and social skills
• Provide a break from living in poverty
• Encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle
• Provide inspiring role models
We do this by:
• Providing a range of activities; from go-karting onsite to forestry skills lessons in the woods
• Showing the children that there is a world outside of the world they live in
• Walking in the beautiful countryside
• Taking children to the beach where they can swim in the sea and build sandcastles
• Providing positive role models for the children to spend time with
• Enabling the children to meet and make new friends
