The Brighton Festival Fringe - England's largest and oldest annual Fringe Festival. With over 700 events. There is something for everybody to enjoy!
Brighton Festival Fringe
Walking round Brighton and Hove while the Fringe is on is like stepping through the mirror into Wonderland. At weekends the whole city becomes a stage. You never know who or what you are going to bump into!
The 2009 fringe runs from May 2 – 25 and features over 600 events in 150 venues, from the glamorous Spiegeltent to the underwater wonders of the Brighton Sea Life Centre.
There will be a spectacular outdoor theatre showcase every weekend as Fringe City and Fringe Street take over Jubilee Street, Jubilee Square and New Road with acts from the Fringe and beyond.
We also have an exciting new addition to Fringe City: a food festival taking place on May 16 and 17. Foodies will feature a chef’s theatre with cooking demonstrations from top local chefs including Aldo Zilli and Michael Bremner from Due South.
You can sign up as a Friend of the Fringe for as little as £17.25. Friends can book tickets, with NO booking fee, a week before the general public. Other benefits include 2 invites to the fabulous Fringe launch party on March 19.
How the Fringe works
The Fringe is totally open access. Anyone can put on an event at the Brighton Fringe and be included in the listings in the brochure and the website, on payment of a fee.
The Fringe office markets all Fringe events via its brochures and website and provides a one-stop ticketing facility through an in-person, telephone and on-line Box Office.
The Fringe is a registered charity with an independent Board of Directors.
Business opportunities with the Fringe
There are many ways in which to support the Fringe while the sponsor builds its brand, from headline to page sponsorship to in-kind support.
Headline sponsor this year is First Capital Connect, with Southern Water sponsoring Fringe City. Boutique hotel chain myhotels will be the official Fringe hotel, Jeremy Hoye is the Fringe jeweller and print and poster gallery artrepublic are sponsoring the visual arts section.
The Fringe also receives a small amount of funding from the Arts Council England and from Brighton & Hove City Council.
