The Winding House Tea Rooms occupy a stunning position adjacent to the famous Cliff Railway right in the heart of Bridgnorth.
From the moment you step over the threshold, you should be instantly drawn inside by the comfortable, relaxed and welcoming ambience. The room should be warm and inviting. It should wrap itself around you and give you a welcoming hug. It's where time stands still and the world can be shut out for a short time as you're served a refreshing cup of tea and proffered a plateful of delicious goodies.
This is the philosophy that owner, Trish Ludlow, applies to The Winding House Tea Rooms. Her belief is that it should be the kind of place that everyone and their grandmother would love to frequent because of the superb service, the lovely atmosphere and the wonderful homemade food and beverages, as well as being somewhere they would happily meet their friends on a regular basis.
Trish is a fairly new Salopian, arriving on British shores in early 2010. Her long held dream of leaving her home in Australia and moving to the UK to buy a business has finally been realised and she says she's already feeling like she belongs in Bridgnorth. According to Trish, refurbishments are planned for the near future which will enhance the quirky, rustic feeling of the building and the end result will be delightful 1940s inspired tea rooms. The Winding House Tea Rooms occupy two levels, plus a beautifully refurbished garden terrace to enjoy the sunny summer days among the greenery.
If you're a parent or grandparent of school age children, or just a lover of all things interesting, you must see the Winding House itself in all its glory. The strangely comforting rumbling of the adjacent Cliff Railway and the clunking of the gears and machinery can be felt and heard throughout the tea rooms, and the fascinating workings can be seen behind glass viewing panels. What little (or big for that matter) person could resist? Outside, the carriages run up and down past the terrace on the lower level so you can watch the railway in action as you enjoy your lunch or morning or afternoon tea.
Trish is proud to say that all the cakes, and indeed all the food, are prepared on the premises using ingredients that, wherever possible, are sourced locally, such as free range eggs, sausages and fresh bread delivered daily. Some gluten free options are available with more options becoming available in the near future. The staff at The Winding House are committed to ensuring that each and every customer is made to feel special and is offered the warmest of welcomes, making their experience both pleasurable and memorable.
