A Bridgnorth woman is planning to take on the gruelling streets of the Virgin London marathon to raise money for a Shropshire hospice, despite having done no running for the last 10 years.

Sue Bowerman, a customer service worker at Telford firm Virgin Balloon Flights, is one of just 100 Virgin Unite runners taking on the 26-mile challenge on April 17.

Despite not having pulled on her running shoes in over a decade she's confident her training programme before race day will see her around the course.

The 30-year-old is collecting money for the Virgin Balloon Flight’s campaign to raise £10,000 for Hope House Children’s Hospice in Oswestry, which provide support to terminally ill children and their families across Shropshire.

"I can’t wait to hear which celebrities we’ll be running with as last year they included Sir Richard Branson, actor Ricky Whittle and singer Natalie Imbruglia," she said.

"Most of all I want to raise as much money for Hope House as possible, so any support would be much appreciated.”

She's got lots of fundraising initiatives including running a half marathon and a parachute jump along with organising a raffle with some stunning prizes from Virgin Group, but really wants sponsorship from businesses or individuals.
