A great day at The Severn Valley steam Railway

What a fantastic day we had at the 'Diesel Day' at the Severn Valley Railway this weekend.

It's easy to forget just how many fantastic attractions we have right on our doorstep and this is one of the best.

We took all of our Kids (3 - all under 7 years old) and Archie the big brown Labrador.

The first thing that strikes you is that there is a real buzz of excitement about the place. Probably due to all of the enthusiasts enthusing over the fantastic engines, diesel and steam at the station. The noise, the smell and the excitement all adds to this great experience. It's like stepping back in time.

Whilst this was a diesel day we were still able to cross over the bridge and watch a HUGE black engine being loaded with coal whilst it puffed and hissed at us, blowing out great jets of steam over the tracks. Our 2 year old lad was absolutely mesmerized by it all. I know that this memory will stay with our kids for a long long time. This is a long long way from watching Thomas on the TV.

I should also say at this point that Dad (me) also had a fab time and the day was only improved by a visit to the station pub for a pint of traditional ale and a bag of scratchings. I could have spent a week there!!! (without the kids).

We all piled on to the train (including Archie the dog) for a trip to Kidderminster and back. It was a beautiful sunny day so the Autumn scene in the Severn Valley was glorious. The kids hung out of the windows, their blonde curls dancing and they screamed with delight. A fantastic sight to see.

All in all a great day out this brilliant local attraction.

And if you are not local and travelling to Bridgnorth and need to stay over then don't miss 'The Severn Arms Hotel'.

This is in a perfect location just by the river in Bridgnorth and it comes highly recommended. Have a look at what customers have had to say about this lovely little hotel. Testimonials
