A recent media tempest has been brewing in response to the swelling success of the large-scale solar plants in the UK, with mainstream hacks uniting against the installation of solar photovoltaics on green or brown field sites.
As noted in our news today, consumer watchdog, Which?, warns that consumers who opt for free solar schemes are losing out on the chance to earn £10,500, since the free solar installation company earns the UK’s generous feed-in tariff rate.
Concerns over the possibility that the feed-in tariff, [introduced in April] could be changed in a retroactive way have been heightened in recent days as no clear unequivocal message from the cabinet or party leaders in the coalition, have been made.
Encouragingly a large portion of the solar installations in Germany are on farmland. Based on these facts, there is no reason why this framework cannot be applied to the UK.The British climate can not and will not affect the success of the UK’s solar market
The growth of the UK photovoltaic market is also clearly outlined by Ofgem’s figures. From April 1 total PV installations were 409 0.9MW for the same period in May they reached 942 2.3MW in June 1406 3.5 MW and by July the figures had climbed to 1753 4.6MW
The various panel installers are freely stating that the feed in tariff is good for 41.3 pence per generated unit for 25 years with retail prices index-linking. It does seem like money for old rope – but is it, really,
According to British Gas’ investigation, Britain’s homes could earn between £600 and £1,000 a year from roof top solar panels. Over 12 million households have roofs that could benefit from solar panel installations.
