Invaluable information and practical help
The charity is an invaluable source of information and practical help for cancer patients and their families – vital for those wanting to make well-informed decisions.
As well as the main Centre, there is an Information Centre within the Bradford Royal Infirmary – both offer a drop-in service for people to access a huge range of information about diagnosis, treatment and care as well as to talk to someone in confidence.
Bradford Cancer Support’s Welfare Rights team is available to help people claim all of their entitlements when ill, as well as providing advice on issues such as debt, employment and legal matters.
The team of volunteer drivers is also available for those who struggle to use public transport and don’t have access to a car, helping to get them to their various appointments.

My diagnosis of breast cancer when I was 42 resulted in a course of chemotherapy and a mastectomy, followed by more chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the months afterwards. As a mother of two children and a wife, I felt totally overwhelmed by my situation, and didnât really know where to turn. By chance, I came across the Cancer Information Centre at the BRI, which is jointly run by the hospital and Cancer Support. There, I realised that there was a whole range of services, some practical, some personal, to help me with my situation. I was able to get advice â I didnât even realise I might be entitled to any help with access to benefits, but an adviser guided me through the process. I liked the fact that this help was available over the phone â I didnât always want to smothered by people helping out. I also benefited from some lovely complementary therapy sessions, which were lovely and girly, and made me feel myself again, just for a while. Talking to the therapist about my feelings, fears and inner pain was so helpful. There are things you just canât talk about with your family and friends. I felt so isolated initially, and I really donât know how I could have coped without Cancer Support Bradford and Airedale. Now I really do feel that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and with their support I am now getting on with my life.
Unfortunately most of us at some time will know someone close to us who is affected by cancer. The work that the fundraising team at Bradford and Airedale Cancer support do to raise funds is fantastic. I would urge anyone who has time or skills to help - please get in touch. Every single donation makes a difference to a family somewhere in our area, so every fundraising activity no matter what amount is raised, will help.
I can't thank them enough for the help and support given to our family - not sure what we would have done without them! Thank you to all the team and fundraisers at Bradford Cancer Support.
