Will grass recover if it has turned brown? Help please from any gardeners out there.

My husband bought some turf from a local DIY store (probably mistake No 1). When he got it home and laid it out half of it looked brown (in stripes).

I said he should return it to the store, but he said there wouldn't be a problem and that it would recover (mistake no. 2?).

More than a week later, having lovingly watered every day - it looks just the same - stripes of brown, dead grass.

Is there anything that can be done?  Will it recover?

Gardeners out there - HELP!

If I say 'I told you so' - that would be mistake number 3!
