Broadcasting great music and local information for 4 years.

Forest FM officially started broadcasting full time on July 9th 2006. Run by local people for local people, it  was the very first radio station in Dorset to be issued with a community radio license. Staffed primarily by volunteers, the station is funded partially by grant money and partially by local advertising. Station founder Steve Saville campaigned for over 10 years to get the license and has created an extremely popular and professional sounding radio station. “It’s a bit like a local Radio 2 with adverts – and just as popular “, says Steve, who also presents the weekday breakfast programme. The station features softrock and oldies during the day with specialist programmes each evening including rock, reggae, folk, soul and country music.

As well as providing local news and information about East Dorset and the New Forest, the station gives local clubs and organisations a voice on the radio. Local artists and musicians are also able to get their work on the radio and Forest FM has played a big part in helping launch the careers of local Bands and singers.

The station can now claim over 30,000 listeners each month, with 10,000 of those listening online via their website www.forestfm.co.uk  In fact online listening is the fastest growing method of listening with computer users listening to the station in the background while they work. It also allows ex-pats from our local area to listen wherever they are in the world.

Publicity for community groups is completely free of charge and to keep the station running, local businesses are offered radio advertising rates that cannot be beaten elsewhere.
