Bolton will become the focus for a Danish-owned global furnishing business this month as JYSK continues its expansion programme with a fifth UK store and creates 12 jobs for the town.

Already one of the world’s biggest retail furniture groups, with more than 1700 stores in 34 countries, JYSK will open at the Bolton Gate Retail Park at 8am with a free Danish breakfast for visitors on Saturday 20th November 2010.
The 30-year-old €2.15bn launched in the UK market in April 2008 with four stores and this fifth store is the first of an important second phase of openings.
The Bolton store, between Carpetright and Hobbycraft, will also be the largest in the country with the most comprehensive stock. JYSK has set its sights on opening up to 500 stores in Britain over the next 20 years.
“The town was of particular interest given its 111,000 households and fast-growing university community,” said Steve Stenhouse, Country Manager for JYSK UK.
“The stores have always had a following with students, those in first-time accommodation and canny shoppers looking to snap up a good quality bargain, perfect for Bolton.
“We sell a range of beds, mattresses, duvets, towels, textiles, sofas, beds, dining table sets, house wares and garden furniture all at value for money low prices thanks to clever and ethical global purchasing power. We expect the store to be extremely popular here,” he added.
The entry of JYSK into the UK will create more than 200 new jobs within the next two years with more planned as JYSK expands across the UK.
Opening celebrations will include a free Danish breakfast at the store on the morning of the 20th alongside a host of opening day offers.
Because the store is so popular with students worldwide, thanks to great prices and a carefully managed ethical purchasing policy, JYSK is also offering the first 30 Bolton students through the door on opening day a free sleeping bag. And, if they are among the first 100 customers, they’ll get a free fleecy throw too!
There will be plenty more offers on the day, as yet under wraps, but every customer will also take away a free JYSK blue bag.
